New Grand Daughter!!

So, if you have read my blog lately, I have mentioned that I have a granddaughter on the way. I am excited to announce that she is here! She was born on March 19th at 10:30 am. She is 19 inches long and weighed 6 pounds and 14.6 oz. She is a little bitty thing with a very long name.

I introduce to you, Persephone Kiahlynn Hawkes. Or for short, we will call her Sephy. She came a little earlier than we expected, but we are very grateful that she is here.

The pictures below are from the hospital. Grandpa Aarron swears that she is going to cry every time he holds her, but so far, that has not been the case.

This little girl has already got me wrapped around her fingers. I look forward to sharing with you as she grows.

Have a great day!

Sleepless in Wherever – Ways for Coping With Insomnia

When dealing with Anxiety, insomnia can really be a problem. That said take a look at this guest post.

Sleepless in Wherever – Ways for Coping With Insomnia

insomnia
Insomnia is rapidly becoming one of America’s largest disorders. More people are sleeping less or not at all, and it’s affecting them and the economy in many ways. When you’re awake at 2 a.m and unable to sleep for days, this can soon take its toll on your health, productivity, relationships and life.

Currently, more than 30% of all Americans suffer from insomnia, while one in two people between the ages of 40 and 60 experience the same thing. Oh, and about 90 percent of all individuals who suffer from depression tend to suffer from insomnia too.

Unfortunately, it’s costing us in many ways. For instance, the National Transport and Safety Board estimates that every year, 100,000 accidents and 1,500 accident related deaths are caused by drivers who didn’t get enough sleep and were driving while drowsy.

There’s also the cost implications. According to the Surgeon General, the U.S government spends $15 billion annually on sleep- related disorders, while the economy itself loses over $150 billion every year courtesy of workers suffering from sleep deprivation.

What Causes Insomnia?

There are many causes of insomnia. From psychological causes like anxiety and worry to physical causes like pain and discomfort. The truth is that when people are extremelyreally stressed and have serious problems to fix, sleep can elude them.

After all, you can only rest when your heart isn’t troubled. But, if you don’t have any issues bugging your mind, your insomnia might be medically related.

For instance, people suffering from arthritis, depression, chronic pain, hyperthyroidism, nasal allergies, asthma, and Parkinson’s disease will most likely find it difficult to sleep at night. And if they do, they may wake up too early or get intermittent sleep at best.

Conditions Frequently Confused with Insomnia

Conditions like narcolepsy and delayed sleep-phase disorder are often confused with insomnia. Narcolepsy for instance, is a neurological disorder and often presents as excessive, uncontrollable sleeping during the day.

As a result, it is typically difficult for people suffering from this to sleep at night. Delayed sleep-phase disorder, on the other hand, is caused by the disruption of the individual’s circadian rhythm, resulting in their inability to sleep as at when due. People like this can experience a two to four- hour sleep delay, thus resulting in its being confused with insomnia.

What’s the Solution to Insomnia?

Curing insomnia usually involves a holistic approach. The following are some of the solutions that when combined will drastically improve your chances of getting adequate sleep.

Prescription sleep aids

Sleeping pills and dietary supplements can help improve your sleeping at night. Most sleeping pills contain antihistamine which isare a key part of drugs used in treating fever and cold. Dietary supplements like Valerian and melatonin also help increase your chances of getting enough sleep.

Changing Your mattress

Sometimes, people cannot sleep because their mattresses are too soft, too hard, or toor is inclined. We would recommend that you consider changing your mattress too as part of your holistic solution to insomnia. If you don’t know where to start, check out Lull’s range of mattresses to get the best sleep results.

Adopting healthy lifestyle changes

More people are introducing distractions into their bedrooms every night, and wonder why they cannot sleep. They’re also adopting unhealthy lifestyle habits that further inhibits their bodies’ ability to get sufficient sleep. You can change this by simply doing the following:

  • Take fewerless stimulants during the day
  • Sleep less during the day –less than 30 minutes- and do it before 3pm
  • Eliminate all screens from the bedroom –these include your phones, tablets, and TV. If you can’t, just leave them inside a drawer or something.
  • Avoid workouts after 5pm
  • Have more sex if you can
  • Avoid reading mentally stimulating books. Just get some fiction for pleasurable reading.

Kira’s Adventure

20160609_202232

Well so far it's been a few weeks since my daughter left home. I guess so far she is doing really well. She seems to be enjoying her newfound freedom. She has a job. She got her first tattoo that she was so excited about.

20160609_202220

She said it's not quite finished yet as she wants to put "Never give up" across the bottom of the tattoo. She already has a few other tattoos in mind that she wants to get. I pray that everything continues to go well for her and that she grows up enough to continue living on her own. She has even been blessed with having a friend she went to school with living close by.

20160609_202224

I have to say I am glad she is doing well, but I miss her being at home. Sometimes I wish that things wouldn't work out for her just so she would be back home, but then I remind myself that she is an adult and needs to figure out what she is going to do with her life. So, I wish her well and hope that she figures it all out. I only want the best for my kids, I guess I just sometimes wish the best for them was living at home....LOL. However, Aarron and I are enjoying our newfound freedom as well.

Have a great day!

Chickens

Well I guess summer is finally here. For the last few days we have been at or above 110 degrees. Because of this, I consider myself fortunate that I have not lost any chickens to the high temperatures. However, I have done a few things to help them stay cool.

20160606_130524

We got a small pool for them so they can climb in to cool off a bit. I thought the duck would be all over this. As you can see from the picture above, she hasn't gone in yet. I may have a duck that is afraid of water...LOL. In her defense though, other than the water basins, she hasn't had the opportunity to be in water yet, but she is only 7 months old.

In addition to their water, I have added a couple foot soak tubs with water so that they can at least get their feet in the water to try to cool down a bit. I have been told that chickens don't like to stand in water, but mine seem to have no problem with this.

20160606_130532

You can see the one standing in the water tub. Many people get the tub and add a brick or two so that the chicken can stand on the brick to cool off (I guess the water in the tub keeps the brick cool so that when the chicken stands on it he or she will cool off). I have not had to do this though.

Finally, every hour or so, I go out and spray down the chickens and the run to try to help keep them cool. Thankfully as the week goes on it's supposed to cool down (in cool down I mean not over 110) so keeping them cool shouldn't be as bad. I just hope the duck (Meena) will start to use the pool.

Have a great day!

Anxiety

Well, the anxiety has been pretty good this week. I've been up to the store several times, but it is getting hot here (supposed to be 110 today) so I've been spending a lot of time indoors which really sucks. I'm thinking its time to head for the mountains. Of course with Aarron being laid up still, I'm not sure that's an option. Definitely looking forward to the rain coming but that is probably still a month or more away.

WP_20150820_14_56_57_Pro

I still wish I could figure out what the anxiety is all about. Maybe then I could get off the meds. As long as I remember to take my meds everyday, it seems that the anxiety is kept at bay, which is a good thing. I don't like having to take medication every day though so I wish I could figure this out and get off it. The chickens are doing good so far. I am just praying that I don't lose any to the heat.

SAM_0048.JPG

I think as long as things keep going good though, I should be alright. I have my dissertation coming up now so that is a little anxiety provoking, but I think I can handle it. I'm just not sure exactly what my instructor wants out of this draft. He made several comments on my last draft, but didn't say what to do with them..lol. So I am left to figure it out on my own. Oh well. I'm I sure I will. It's just frustrating sometimes I think. Anyhow, that's how things are going with me. How bout you? How was your week?

Have a great day!

Better Week

So far this week has been much better. My daughter started a new job (hopefully this means she will continue to live in town rather than moving back out here soon, but we shall see), we haven't lost any more chicken, and Aarron (the hubby) is able to start putting weight on his leg again.

10169255_10152345114219555_7024250470804417978_n

The doctor said his leg is healing really well and he is allowed to start using it again. I hope to have pictures of the most recent x-rays later today, but that depends on if Aarron remembered (or was able to) take them.

Kira started a new job on Monday. It is close to where she is living so hopefully she will actually grow up a bit and be able to live on her own (or well at least not at home with me...lol). I have to say though, after 24 years of always having at least one kid with me, it is very strange to now find it is just me and the hubby.

Kira at the lake

My dad also turned 82 yesterday. Surprisingly he is doing real well considering we almost lost him a year and a half ago. He is now pretty well back on his feet and wanting to go back to work. Which by the way he was working full time up until his trip to the hospital in January 2015.

11020752_10153344121009555_1554940243285356976_n

This was actually taken on his birthday last year, but he still looks the same.

As for the chickens, we still have 6 female and 1 female duck so I am still getting a lot of eggs every day. We still are not sure what happened with the other 3, but whatever it was doesn't seem to be affecting the others. Hopefully all will continue to go well this week.

Have a great day!

Blessings Jar

Mason jars are great for everything! I know this is the time of year that we all begin to think about what we are thankful for and what we are blessed for. I am no different. So what I wanted to do was make a jar so that during the coming year any time something happens that is good, I or my family can write it down. On New Year's eve next year we can sit down and go through all the good memories and remember what we had to be blessed for over the entire year. So if you would like to make one as well this is how:

Supplies:

1 mason jar

Scissors

cardboard

Spray Paint (or other decorations for the mason jar)

11202585_10153785263939555_8711050370780229958_n

  1. Using the cardboard, cut out a circle that will fit into the ring of the mason jar.

12376224_10153785264094555_4906719954883981401_n 12369037_10153785264209555_6981254568596271130_n 12390828_10153785263784555_6580424082858420010_n 12390850_10153785263604555_7654543446644396807_n 12342831_10153785263409555_2476727705753479059_n

2. Decide how you want to decorate the jar. I cut out a heart shape to tape to the jar before painting. You could use tape to make different designs or other shapes or symbols. Whatever you want to do with the jar is perfect.

1426187_10153785263304555_3428608863526860867_n

3. Paint the jar. This is the fun part!

12342533_10153785262969555_5703012002726132399_n 12360146_10153785262839555_3462374763478728387_n

With the spray paint it only took about 15 min to dry which makes this a quick easy project to put together.

12373215_10153785262684555_6637965487217611023_n

Now I have my jar to add precious memories to for the year! If you decide to do this, I would love to see how yours turned out. This is in response to Blogging from A to Z April Challenge.

Have a great day!

Well I have to say, school is really starting to ramp up a bit. It has already been a crazy week and next week doesn't look much better. In a few months I should be starting my dissertation and I am beginning to fell a bit overwhelmed with the thought of it. I will continue to post throughout as often as I can but at this point in time I am not making any promises...lol. However, I am sure I will stop by every few days to the blogs I do follow. I have begun to think as many of you as friends and would not want to miss those.

Have a great day!

Going Back to Christmas!

20160127_134548

Finally got to use our gift from the in-laws. Sadly it has taken us 2 years to get any pictures of us up in the house. There is one from our wedding in the frame that I absolutely adore. Plus other pictures of us in the last few years. I love this! Thank you Mom and Dad for the beautiful picture frame.

Have a great day!

Weekend Fun

So for Christmas my daughter got a ghost tour here in Tucson. The company is local and does these tours all the time. Tucson Ghost Tour takes you on a walking tour of downtown Tucson providing historical facts and paranormal activity in the area. This was so much fun. I think I may have even caught a couple things in my pictures. You decide for yourself. Let me know what you think.

On this one I circled the area that is on the picture. The next picture is the same one with nothing done to it.

I circled the area around the door because it looks like there may be something there. The next picture is the same picture that has not been touched.

Happy New Year!

fb_img_1451632309251.jpg

This is our puppy (she is actually about 6 yrs old). On new year's our neighbors decided to set off fireworks and she wanted nothing to do with it LOL. When she hears loud noises such as gun shots or fireworks, she gets scared and has to be right next to someone for the next 3-4 hours. On new year's she actually crawled under the blanket (which she never does, she always sleeps at the foot of the bed) and was laying right up next to me. Poor puppy was terrified.

I never used to put much into making sure the dogs were in for the night on the fourth of July or new years until I moved in with her (my husband, Aarron had her before we met). I have never had a dog that reacted badly to loud noises. I completely understand the warnings now to bring your pets indoors on these nights.

Have a great Day!

Finally!

20151202_145413

So, Christmas is finally over! Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas? I know that I did. My hubby got a stand mixer. I have always wanted one. He also got me a wool neck protector that goes on the seat belt in the car.  I am so short the seat belt doesn't fit me right, it always rubs on my neck and hurts if I'm in the car for too long. He has been talking about getting one for me for quite some time and finally did.

So, who is making new year's resolutions this year? I haven't decided if I will or not as I can't think of anything right now that I need to change other than my weight. If you are setting a new year's resolution this year I would love to hear what it is.

Have a great day!

Long Week

Photo from: anxietyrelief1.com
Photo from: anxietyrelief1.com

Well I think today I learned a very valuable lesson. My anxiety has been pretty non-existent for the last few weeks and it appears that because of this I have forgotten to take my medication for the last 4 days or so (this is approximately the last time I remember taking them). So, today, I woke with a panic attack at 5 am. My anxiety level has since then been pretty high today. I did take my meds today but after being off of them for almost a week it doesn't seem to be doing much good.

I have spent the day trying to use mindfulness to help with the anxiety and even this does not seem to be working today :( It appears nothing that I usually fall back on wants to be effective today. Oh well such is life I guess. We have to take the good with the bad. There's always tomorrow to get things done....

What do you do when nothing that usually works appears to work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day!

Renee

Are you Ready?

20151201_184358

Well Christmas is almost here! Are you ready? Have you done all your shopping, shipping, and baking?

This week has already been crazy and it's only Monday! I finally got most of my baking done. Still a little to do but I'm close enough I think that I can take the day off. Of course that means I will have to work overtime for the next couple days to get it all done...LOL. We decided to go with mostly home made gifts this year with trying to get back to what Christmas is supposed to be about. To quote a commercial that has been playing lately we are trying to "make the 4 letter word of the season L-O-V-E instead of S-A-L-E." I did buy some gifts. Of course we can't get away from that entirely. I just want to remember Christmas as a time of joy rather than hectic shopping season. I guess this a part of trying to slow down a bit.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday this weekend!

Holly Cow!

candy cane lane

I hope everyone is doing good and having a great day so far! What a weekend this was. My husband decided it was time to start a new project. I will have more on this in a bit. I will be starting a portfolio page for different projects and try to keep them updated as they come along. So, we went and got the hubby's new project on Saturdayodessy 1 A beauty it is not, but it will so much fun when it is done. Then we had a Christmas party for my husband's work. The hotel they held it in was amazing and beautiful. I had to get pictures from inside.

christmas party 2 christmas party 3 christmas party

Yes, they had a waterfall inside the hotel. It was beautiful. From the waterfall it ran in like a river around the majority of the lobby. With the Christmas decorations, the lobby was beautiful. My husband started this job just a couple months ago and so far is loving it. I got to meet many of his co-workers and his boss (who seems like a great guy).

All in all it was a good weekend, I just wish they would last a little bit longer.

How was your weekend?

Have a great day!

Renee

P.S. I completely forgot the best part! I saw Santa when we went to the Christmas party and was able to get a picture with him.

Do you know anyone that would like this charm for Christmas? I know I do, several in fact. These are car jewelry that Joy Jewelers have for sale. If you would like to get these charms (there are other styles available as well, this is just the one I liked the most) go to car jewelry from joyjewelers.com. They are made with 14k yellow gold and appear to be high quality. These pieces are usually made to order and hand filed after casting to give the most detail possible. This particular pendant measures 1/4 inch tall and 3/4 inches wide. I think this is probably the most detail I have seen in a pendant of this type. Beautiful craftsmanship! I can only imagine how long it would take to make one of these pendants with such detail and shine. They also have available Chevy, Mercedes, and Pontiac pendants so for any car lover you know, there should be something to fit what he or she likes.

Home Life

I think for last week the picture says it all: slow. All in all it was a good week. We got a new mattress which was great to sleep on last night. We went to Tombstone over the weekend which was a great trip (plus no anxiety freak out on the way there or back - Yay me!). I have my Christmas shopping about half way done already (which is new for me, I'm usually a very last minute shopper). However, now I think I may be getting sick :( which I don't like.

My daughter is starting to finally branch out on her own (which I was beginning to think would never happen). She is 18 now and is finally starting to get out of the house a little. I hope this is a trend that will continue. My oldest son will home on leave next week. While it has only been a month since I have seen him, I'm excited to see him again. He will be home for about 2 weeks and then  back to South Carolina.

So, all in all it has been a good week which I am very thankful for. How was your week?

Have a great day!

Douglas

I made it! I am so happy I made the trip there and back without a hitch. I was even able to enjoy myself to the fullest. The pictures above are from Douglas, AZ which is where we went to spend the weekend with my husband's family. We had a great time. It's times like this that I think I can actually beat my anxiety. Of course on the bad days I feel it's almost hopeless, but thankfully there seem to be more good days than bad lately. I hope it stays this way because I love road trips.

Travel

So this is where I am off to this weekend. I am terrified! How does one make such a journey when one has anxiety? I am hoping that all my worry is for naught and all with be fine as it was on the way to and from Oklahoma last year. My husband Aarron, has been so good to me about my anxiety. He has been working all morning to get our Kia hooked to the back of the RV so that I don't have to drive it to Douglas. We are going to spend the weekend with his family. We wanted to go last night but he has to work tomorrow (he does however have today off :). Since he has to work tomorrow we are going to spend Thanksgiving with my family and go spend the weekend with his. Hopefully Christmas will work out better for us.

When we went to Oklahoma last year, I did fine on the way there and the way back. I got a little anxious when we would go through the bigger cities like, Dallas and El Paso, but for the most part I did just fine. I'm not sure what the difference is with the RV instead of a vehicle but it didn't seem to affect me as much. Living where I do, most of the time the freeway is off limits but put me in the RV and everything seemed to be fine.

I have to say I am looking forward to this trip, I just hope that I don't make the trip longer than what it has to be. 2 hours one way is a bit much for me to be in a car. I know that we will likely stop at least once on the way there which will help a bit too. I'm probably worrying over nothing, just like last year....

Happy Thanksgiving to all

Renee

Busy Week

Photo from: www.CartoonStock.com
Photo from: www.CartoonStock.com

Today I think the picture says it all. It has already been a long week and it's only Tuesday! Thankfully I don't have the obligation of Thanksgiving Dinner or I would really be in trouble. We are trying to get ready to go see my in-laws this weekend, plus thanksgiving dinner with my sister on Thursday. My husband only has Thursday off this year, he has to work on Friday. So we are going to wait to visit the in-laws until the weekend. We are going to leave on Fraiday when he gets home from work.  However, we are taking our RV (it's a 77 La Palma I think, so this could be a challenge) down for my hubby's cousin so we have to make sure it is ready to go. It did make it to Oklahoma and back though without too much hassle. Hopefully this trip will be the same (were going about 150 miles instead of 1000 miles).

I have to say I am really looking forward to going to see his parents. His brother with wife and kids should be coming from Oklahoma as well, so it should be a great weekend. So I think the moral to this week is being thankful. That said: I am thankful for my family and extended family of almost 2 years (in-laws) because family has to be important.

What are you thankful for?

Have a great day!

Renee
