Transition

Transition

I love the thought of transition. I know that most of us are afraid of change, but change happens every day! We need to get used to it. As for my photo of change I am posting a picture of my chickens and ducks as babies and what they look like today. I am truly enjoying these birds.

This was taken the day we got them about 8 months ago.
This was taken the day we got them about 8 months ago.
They were about 2 months old in this one. We had just put them outside.
They were about 2 months old in this one. We had just put them outside.
This is my birds now.
This is my birds now.

Although there are a few less now but this last picture was taken last month. We got rid of the roosters because they were picking on the ducks.

Have a great day!

Travel

So this is where I am off to this weekend. I am terrified! How does one make such a journey when one has anxiety? I am hoping that all my worry is for naught and all with be fine as it was on the way to and from Oklahoma last year. My husband Aarron, has been so good to me about my anxiety. He has been working all morning to get our Kia hooked to the back of the RV so that I don't have to drive it to Douglas. We are going to spend the weekend with his family. We wanted to go last night but he has to work tomorrow (he does however have today off :). Since he has to work tomorrow we are going to spend Thanksgiving with my family and go spend the weekend with his. Hopefully Christmas will work out better for us.

When we went to Oklahoma last year, I did fine on the way there and the way back. I got a little anxious when we would go through the bigger cities like, Dallas and El Paso, but for the most part I did just fine. I'm not sure what the difference is with the RV instead of a vehicle but it didn't seem to affect me as much. Living where I do, most of the time the freeway is off limits but put me in the RV and everything seemed to be fine.

I have to say I am looking forward to this trip, I just hope that I don't make the trip longer than what it has to be. 2 hours one way is a bit much for me to be in a car. I know that we will likely stop at least once on the way there which will help a bit too. I'm probably worrying over nothing, just like last year....

Happy Thanksgiving to all

Renee

Procrastination

procrastination

Photo from:someecards.com

This actually totally describes me lately. I have homework that I really need to get done (due tomorrow) but I can't seem to find the energy to do it. This isn't usually like me. I am usually a week or more ahead. I have been trying to figure out why I have been procrastinating so much and the only thing I can come up with is that I have been going to school for so long (since 2006) and now that I am so close to being done (within 6 months or so) that I am tired. I am tired of doing school work. The worst part about the whole thing is I still have my dissertation to do. This is going to be a big undertaking and I am just not looking forward to it.

Right now I should be working on my schoolwork but instead I am here...lol. This is quickly becoming one of my happy places that I go to when I have other things that I should be doing. What do you do when you should be doing something else? I would love to hear.

Have a great day!

Busy Week

Photo from: www.CartoonStock.com
Photo from: www.CartoonStock.com

Today I think the picture says it all. It has already been a long week and it's only Tuesday! Thankfully I don't have the obligation of Thanksgiving Dinner or I would really be in trouble. We are trying to get ready to go see my in-laws this weekend, plus thanksgiving dinner with my sister on Thursday. My husband only has Thursday off this year, he has to work on Friday. So we are going to wait to visit the in-laws until the weekend. We are going to leave on Fraiday when he gets home from work.  However, we are taking our RV (it's a 77 La Palma I think, so this could be a challenge) down for my hubby's cousin so we have to make sure it is ready to go. It did make it to Oklahoma and back though without too much hassle. Hopefully this trip will be the same (were going about 150 miles instead of 1000 miles).

I have to say I am really looking forward to going to see his parents. His brother with wife and kids should be coming from Oklahoma as well, so it should be a great weekend. So I think the moral to this week is being thankful. That said: I am thankful for my family and extended family of almost 2 years (in-laws) because family has to be important.

What are you thankful for?

Have a great day!

Quote of the Day

Buddha says: "At the time of Buddha, there lived an old beggar woman called "Relying on Joy". She used to watch the kings, princes, and people making offerings to Buddha and his disciples, and there was nothing she would have liked more than to be able to do the same. So she went out begging, but at the end of a whole day all she had was one small coin. She took it to the oil-merchant to try to buy some oil. He told her that she could not possibly buy anything with so little. But when he hears that she wanted it to make an offering to Buddha, he took pity of her and gave her the oil she wanted. She took it to the monastery, where she lit a lamp. She placed it before Buddha, and made this wish: "I have nothing to offer but this tiny lamp. But through this offering, in the future may I be blessed with the lamp of wisdom. May I free all beings from their darkness. May I purify all their obstructions, and lead them to enlightenment."

That night the oil in all the other lamps went out. But the beggar woman's lamp was still burning at dawn, when Buddha's disciple Maudgalyayana came to collect all the lamps. When he saw that one was still slight, full of oil and with a new wick, he thought, " There's no reason why this lamp should still be burning in the day time," and he tried to  blow it out. But it kept on burning. He tried to snuff it out with his fingers, but it stayed alight. He tried to smother it with his robe, but still it burned on. The Buddha had been watching all along, and said, "Maudgalyayana, do you want to put out that lamp? You cannot. You cannot even move, let alone put it out. If you were to pour the water from all ocean over this lamp, it still wouldn't go out. The water in all the rivers and the lakes of the world could not extinguish it. Why not? Because this lamp was offered with devotion and with purity of heart and mind. And that motivation has made it of tremendous benefit." When Buddha had said this, the beggar woman approached him, and he made a prophesy that in the future she would become a perfect buddha, call "Light of the Lamp."

So it is our motivation, good or bad, that determines the fruit of our actions."

The Power of Touch

The Power of Touch

Photo from: quotesgram.com
Photo from: quotesgram.com

Let's see, what texture is particularly evocative to you?

I think I would have to say the touch of skin (Get your mind out of the gutter, I'm talking about holding hands...lol). It seems to me that anytime I'm in a bad mood or depressed, the touch of my husband's hand seems to make everything alright again. I know that sounds pretty dopey or sappy, but it's true. When my husband simply holds my hand I know that everything will be alright. I know that because we are together everything will work out for the best.

Have a great day!

Recreate a Single Day

Day 14: Writing 101
Recreate a Single Day

Photo from: diversitystore.com
Photo from: diversitystore.com

For today we are to recreate a single day staying within a 24 hour timeline. I've never been one for writing stories. I just try to explain my life and what is happening on any given day (yes, I know sometimes my life is pretty boring). So, I think I will use the alternate choice for today of: revealing one days significance through it's aftermath. Here goes.

I think so far, the most significant day for me would have to be when I met my husband. The aftermath of all of this is obvious; we got married. After my second divorce, I swore I would never marry again. If I only knew then what I know now....lol. When I met my husband our first date consisted of dinner at the Triple T Truck Stop. Surprisingly, this is the same place my parents met (my mother was a waitress at the diner and my father was the tire-man for the truck stop). Our date was only supposed to be dinner but 2 hours later we were still in the parking lot talking. I had never met someone I could talk to so easily.

My daughter kept calling and texting to see where I was at and when I would be home. At the end of the night I knew this was someone I could spend the rest of my life with and we have since been married almost 2 years now. And to think, I was so scared about meeting him that I almost canceled that date!

Have a great day!

Renee

Slicker Dog Grooming

*This is a sponsored post*

RollinPets sent me the Slicker Dog Grooming brush with free flea comb and I gotta tell you I was impressed. I've never really seen much hair shedding from either of my dogs, but this brush showed me what is really happening.

20151117_143231 20151117_143432 20151117_143434 20151117_143502

See all that hair! I was shocked! Plus, both dogs enjoyed the attention they got while being brushed. This is a great product.

Rollin Pets sent this item to me at a discounted price for my unbiased opinion.

Quote of the Day

Buddha says: "A number of disciples went to the Buddha and said, "Sir, there are living here in Savatthi many wandering hermits and scholars who indulge in constant dispute, some saying the world is infinite and eternal and others that it is finite and not eternal, some saying that the soul dies with the body and other that it lives on forever, and so forth. What, Sir, would you say concerning them?"

The Buddha answered, "Once upon a time there was certain raja who called to his servant and said, 'Come, good fellow and go and gather together in one place all the men of Savatthi who were born blind...and show them an elephant.' 'Very good sire,' replied the servant, and he did as he was told. He said to the blind men assembled there, 'Here is an elephant,' and to one man he presented the head of the elephant, to another its ears, to another a tusk, to another the trunk, the boot, back, tail, and tuft of the tail, saying to each one that that was the elephant.

"When the blind men had felt the elephant, the raja went to each of the and said to each, 'Well, blind man, what sort of thing is an elephant?'

"Thereupon the men who were presented with the head answered, 'Sire, an elephant is like a pot.' And the men who had observed the ear replied, 'An elephant is like a winnowing basket.' Those who has been presented with a tusk said it was a ploughshare. Those who knew only the trunk said it was plough; others said the body was a grainery; the foot, a pillar; the back, a mortar; the tail, a pestle, the tuft of the tail a brush.

"Then they began to quarrel, shouting, 'Yes, it is!' 'No, it is not!' 'An elephant is not that!' 'Yes, it's like that!' and so on, till they came to blows over the matter.

"Brethren, the raja was delighted with the scene.

"Joust so are these preachers and scholars holding various views blind and unseeing...In their ignorance they are by nature quarrelsome, wrangling, and disputatious, each maintaining reality is thus and thus."

Then the Exalted One rendered this meaning by uttering this verse of uplift,

O how they cling and wrangle, some who claim

For preacher and monk the honored name!

For, quarreling, each to his view that cling.

Such folk see only one side of a thing."
