Meatloaf

When I was growing up my mother would make meatloaf and it would leave all of us kids (there were 6 of us) scrambling to find a friends house we could eat at that night. I mean seriously, we did not like her meatloaf. All you could taste was onion and ketchup! Not a good combination.

I remember after my parents split up, I was with my dad and he asked if I wanted meatloaf for dinner. My exact quote to him was "are you crazy! That's disgusting!"....LOL. He then told me that he found a recipe different from my mother's that he wanted to try so I said (albeit I was still not happy about this idea) ok.  I wish that I  could remember where he found this recipe so that I could give proper credit, but this was well over 20 years ago. All I can remember is that he said he found it in a magazine. I have been using this recipe ever since. Amazing stuff and for my family a real comfort food. The recipe itself is very easy. I will tell you upfront it really doesn't look too pretty, but the taste is amazing (especially with mashed potatoes and corn).

to make this meatloaf all you need is:

1lb ground beef (or for a smaller loaf use 1/2 lb)

1 lb ground sausage (again for a smaller loaf use 1/2 lb)

1 egg

1 can cream of mushroom soup

crackers ( I usually use saltines, but Ritz would work just as well)

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl
  3. Mix until thoroughly combined and mix holds together fairly well
  4. Put in a 9 X 13  baking dish
  5. Place in oven for about an hour (a little longer if you like a harder crust on the outside)
  6. Enjoy!

Again I will warn you it doesn't look pretty but it is so good!

meatloaf2 0918150823 I was not able to get pictures before everyone started digging in, as I said my family loves this recipe. Although, I love this recipe on the first night, (if you have any left overs) it is even better the next day on a sandwich!

Hope you enjoy this as much as my family does.

If you do try this recipe, please come back and let me know how it turned out!

Have a great day!

Renee

Quote of the day

Buddha says: "Greater in battle
than the man who would conquer
a thousand-thousand men,
is he who would conquer
just one —
himself.
Better to conquer yourself
than others.
When you've trained yourself,
living in constant self-control,
neither a deva nor gandhabba,
nor a Mara banded with Brahmas,
could turn that triumph
back into defeat."

Upcycle!

Finished Planters
Finished Planters

I have a bunch of old tires laying around the yard so I thought I would make use of them. I decided I wanted to make a couple planters. What I used was 4 tires (2 approximately the same size) and 4 cans of spray paint. I believe this is probably one of the cheapest ways to do this, but you could also glue rope around the outside of the tire on the tread or any other way you could imagine to decorate them.

4 cans spray paint. Approximately 1 can per tire.
4 cans spray paint. Approximately 1 can per tire.
4 old tires
4 old tires

Clean the tires if needed by spraying them down good with water.

Project 3

Spray paint the tires and let dry for about 24 hrs.

That was the fun part! Once the tires dry:

Stack two tires together and fill with potting soil.

Wet the soil down really good.

Plant the seeds and wait!

I thought it would take about 2 weeks before we started seeing anything, but apparently my daughter has a green thumb.

20150929_115837

We had sprouts in the one she planted within two days! Mine on the other hand still has nothing...LOL. Guess I should leave the gardening to her.

Hopefully I have inspired some creativity in you. Just remember, creativity does not have to be expensive. This whole project took about $40.00. All I had to buy was  the soil and spray paint, but you have rope lying around you could glue that to the tread and still have a beautiful upcycled planter!

Have a great day!

AHHHH!

Dictionary.com defines anxiety as:

1.distress or uneasiness of mind caused by fear of danger or misfortune:

2. earnest but tense desire; eagerness:

3. Psychiatry. a state of apprehension and psychic tension occurring in some forms of mental disorder.
I think in my case both 1 and 3 apply. I wish I could say that 2 applied, but sadly it does not. This last week was a bit of a cluster for my family, which definitely did not help my anxiety. My husband was in for surgery on Thursday and has been in pain since then. My inability to help him with the pain has had my anxiety pretty high. I know that we all hate to see our loved ones in pain and feel pretty helpless when it happens ( well at the very least parents know how this feels). There is nothing we can do to help ease the pain except make sure pain medicine is available. Moms, though, are supposed to be the safe haven that everyone runs to because she can fix anything right? Well in this case I can't and I don't like this feeling of helplessness. Anyone that has dealt with a sick child can relate to this I think. However, I think for me this helplessness manifests itself in a bad way.
I' dealing with it though in the only way that I know how. I work, I clean, I do what I can. I try to be near enough to be able to him with anything he may need help with but this feeling of helplessness is rough. I think that I try to move myself away from the situation. by this, I mean that I am not at his side 100% of the time. I don't like this. I should be right there for anything he needs. I know that I am doing what I can but I feel like it is not enough. I feel like I am failing him when I should be the strongest for both of us right now. Mind you, I am not making him do everything for himself. I am there when he needs something, but I feel like I should be doing more and this frustrates me. I'm pretty sure if I were to ask him he would say I am doing fine, it just doesn't feel this way to me. I guess because I am a mom I am supposed to fix everything and I feel helpless because I can't.
Well as I work toward "getting over" my anxiety I need to remember my limitations (which I have a hard time doing). I don't like to think that I can't do it all. I'm mom and that means superhero right?

Blogging 201: Give Them What They Want

voting

Today is about finding out what you want from me. I'm not entirely sure I have enough followers yet for this, but I am going to give it a try anyway. I have included a poll in my post for you to give me suggestions on what you would like to see on my blog. I have added a few items and left it open to add more suggestions if you have other ideas of what you would like to see. I have to say that I enjoy learning so if someone were to add something I know little to nothing about, I definitely would not mind doing some research to get you the answers you would like to see. I look forward to hearing from you!

Have a great day!

Blogging 201: Blogging Buddies

Photo from pcr30.weebly.com
Photo from pcr30.weebly.com

Today's challenge is to find a blogging buddy! If anyone is interested in this I think for the most part I would like to learn more from someone with the experience, but I don't see why a guest post or 2 wouldn't work as well. At this point in my journey, I really am not sure what this blog will be about so I don't know how a guest post would fit in at the moment, but you never know. I would really just like to connect with a few of you for feedback (both ways of course). I look forward to connecting with you!

Have a great day!

Blogging 201: Days 7 and 8

Image from www.123f.com
Image from www.123f.com

Well, yesterday was a cluster so I didn't get anything done. Because of this, I am going to combine days 7 and 8 into one post. Day 7 was create an event. I think for the time being I am going to pass on this one. I have so much going on right now as it is that I am not sure I can manage an event successfully at this time. However, I am looking into possibly following a few events to help with content for my blog. There are so many different events out there it's just a matter of finding one that fits with my blog. I think once this blogging 201 course is done I will try to incorporate some of the events into my site, even if it's just with a mention and a link. Seriously, though, I do want to try out a few of them just to see what I can do.

When I started this blog, I knew that I wanted to write, mostly about life in general, but I would like to give other areas of writing a try as well. I know that I have already seen picture challenges like I would like to get into because I love taking pictures. There are also starter prompts where one gets a word, sentence, or theme and make a story out of it. Many of these challenges sound like a lot of fun. So I look forward to making this happen soon.

Day 8 in the blogging 201 course is about making your site a hub. I already have the social media in place, I just have to figure out how best to use it. I have a few projects that I want to do and I plan on posting before, after, and during pictures on Facebook and probably Instagram as I do them. Once done I will write it up (with pictures) here as well. I hope to be able to show someone else how to do some of the projects I would like to complete. I hope that some of them come in handy for someone else. I would also like to start a weekly something or other, I just have to figure out what I would like to do.

I hope to see you again soon

Have a great day!

Renee

Blogging201: Social Media

Picture from http://www.forbes.com/sites/insider/2014/11/10/social-media-for-attorneys-good-business-or-ethical-minefield/
Picture from http://www.forbes.com/sites/insider/2014/11/10/social-media-for-attorneys-good-business-or-ethical-minefield/

So, today is all about social media. I have the sharing buttons and the connect buttons on my page already however, I did make an adjustment today because Krista suggested making a page to connect Facebook with my readers. So I now have a new page on Facebook! I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with it yet, but I'm sure that will come. I look forward to connecting with my readers there as well as here.

I chose Facebook because I already have an account with them and decided this would be the easiest way to start trying to make the most of social media. Hopefully I will be able to post projects I am doing, while in the works, and before posting them here. I have a few ideas that I look forward to sharing very soon (as soon as the monsoon season here is over).

I love Facebook because you can connect with people around the world. This has been a curiosity of mine as I love to see how other people live. Facebook give us a way to do this. When you make "friends" on Facebook you get to see their pictures and a glimpse of what they do and who they are. I love this! Getting to know new people is so interesting to see the differences in the way we live compared to how others live. Social media is wonderful for this very thing.

I look forward to sharing with you both here and on Facebook!

See you soon,

Renee

A Letter to Me

Renee,

First I want to say Happy Birthday! It is hard to imagine you are 41 today. It really doesn't seem like that much time has past. But oh..what am time it has been. You now have 3 children that are 18 or over and one more still growing. I know you don't see him much, but keep hoping that one day he will come back to you. It could happen

What can I say to you that may help you in the future? I know there have been some bad spots in life, but it will make you who you are today. It will take 2 divorces before you meet the man you will love for the rest of your life. Just try to remember the good times.

Would I change anything? Not at all. If you were to change one thing it would change it all. Meaning you would not find Aarron. Are there regrets? I would have to say no. I love where I am right now. I know that the anxiety is bad some days, but you will work through it. It gets better every day. The time you will spend in Oklahoma may not be the best, but what an adventure it was. Waiting every day to see if there would be a storm during the rain season. Oh yeah, that did not help the anxiety. Just talk to Aarron, he will help you through it.

But oh the sights you will see while you are there! You made your first trip to Bass Pro Shops and what an exciting day that is.1897892_10152340072669555_450961629814779632_n 10013950_10152340071854555_7216970985877634324_n 10173530_10152340072399555_5981797307010019630_n 10174882_10152340071609555_2455689620863847251_n

The trip to the Museum of Osteology is one you will not soon forget.10305608_10152393964089555_1538463283410641566_n 10258684_10152393947724555_1395560755864345706_n - Copy 10252172_10152393948164555_4866769206460090180_n - Copy

The Oklahoma Bombing Memorial was something else. It was so quite there even though there was traffic about 100 ft away on all sides.

1507794_10152351915284555_4159347212938321100_n 1604736_10152351915354555_8770897412179719187_n 10174805_10152351918384555_5959672457481057661_n

Coming home will be the best thing you can think of at the time. And it will be good. This will show you how much you really do like being home.

Life will have it's bumps and obstacles, but just keep doing what you are doing and things will get better. You kids will grow. Tim will find you again. You will meet Aarron who will keep you laughing all the time. You will love him more than words can say. So just keep on the path you are on now and you will get here and finally be content with your life. It no longer feels as if something is missing....it's just right.

Happy Birthday Renee

Love,

Me
